Walk in the Dark with Ed&Fray

Lonrho House

Location is the hide out ;-)

Aserious Graffitti in town

Hello Darlings,

Isn't Nairobi  just too Beautiful???-especially in the Night,
Of  late i have been doing some late night strolls in town with friends, Friday was one of those days
i was to do dinner at chicken house with Stella, talk business with Ed of Ed& Fray at the Kenya Cinema Place then stroll a little before leaving for home.

But that  was before i changed my mind and decided to accompany Ed for one of his Night Shoots.
it was Fun! considering it was a Friday and there was something about the mood.. something like '..am going to a party???;-)'

so anyway, he took a couple of shots (the pics above) and if i may call a spoon  by its name and a spade likewise by its name, then this guy is set to be Kenyas top photographer.. there i said it.. he's very  good at it.

On a flip, try a walk in the dark with a friend or someone you care about, see how it feels. THERAPHY.

The story behind the city market HUGE gaffitti,

An Ed and Fray Photography

Hello Darlings,

By now this beautiful piece of Graffiti is not  new to your eye, and just as Ed said, (the photographer) that we are probably the last people to take a photo of this piece,
but besides being the last, here i come first with the true story behind this piece , (at least with first hand information from a witness)

But first,I might have to take you back a little bit to the true Graffiti culture.
Graffiti is a crime, an art crime mostly done by the voiceless people of the society, done on strategic places, mostly vandalised walls all in effort to get your attention and also for personal expression and establishment which of course goes out of the norm.

Graffiti done legally loses its sense and thrill of being a graffiti - that's why artists do not put their name tags on it. its supposed to be anonymous.
in the past, it was done in Groups. there usually is  a head spray can artist and the helpers to help minimise risks, this would usually end up strengthening bonds of friendship among the artists and either way their is a sense of comfort in a majority, and less risks.

its nature of vandalism required artists to do it at quire times to avoid being busted. this, probably falls in the night.that's where the thrill and adventure falls in, and people would wake up every morning to marvel at your work and wonder who did it, take photos and talk about it.

Which takes me back to our picture of the moment.
sources say that the artists arrived late in the night. it was a very big crew. Four whites, 2 Japanese and a bunch of Locals. They found Street urchins asleep and they woke them up to dismiss them.
there was heavy Lighting because its  obvious the whole piece couldn't be done in darkness.
and besides that, they were Guarded by some  AP Police.

Its ironical  that foreigners can actually step up and  address our societal problems on our behalf through Graffiti,i presume that it was a wake up call because soon  after the Media highlighted Graffiti issues Locals became conscious and later their were stencils graffiti  all over town on political awareness.

all i got to say is Long Live Graffiti, and big up's to Graffitti writers, cant get enough of these.

Tribute to my Grannie's

After every two weeks i travel down to my mum's to see her, catch up with my siblings and just unwind.
Last Saturday was  one of those weekends, i traveled down, Precisely after dinner, my Mum asks me if i could make time to go down to the village with her for my Grand parents first anniversary...
I was too shocked and embarrassed that i couldn't remember the exact dates, it feels like it was just yesterday we were together... dining by the fire place(their favorite spots) the endless story telling. the laughter and joy!
time has just flown too fast i cant believe its already a year since they both passed on two months separate from each other.

I miss them. its from my Grand ma that i got very spiritual. she would make everyone stop  whatever they were doing to say a prayer...she was tough, hard working and very cheerful. no task was too hard for her arms, always moving about amid songs , Cheerful. tears did not know her eyes.
that's what i miss exactly, the warm energy she had. i identify a lot with her. she is a lot like my mum and i wanna be just like them

My Grandpa was a silent man.striking a conversation with him was little hard for me coz i would ask a question and he would instaed look hard at me before responding then he would say; 'its in silence that the lord speaks... too many words cause slander and hate, and ones you ultter a word, you cannot take it back.'
so be keen to calculate your words. Be wise. and then i would walk away...

I haven't grown much around my dad so basically my grandpa was my dad and my Grand ma, who was also an artist and my number one fan will always be my mentor.

i cannot find the right words to put together in their honor. am not even a words smith
but one thing i know for sure is that the world might have not known about you but u are the world to us,
thank you for shaping my perception about life, my way of thinking and the cheer you to brought us.
i believe you are at a better place now as we celebrate your first anniversary.
R.I.P

Lazy is gone!

Now before i grade myself a sorry 'F' for blogging, y don't i pull my socks up and refresh? ;-)
been mostly up and down (this shouldn't be an excuse)for not possibly fixing my blog in my schedule, but hey! am back!;-)

lets imagine that for a second  this is me ..;-)

While i was away, a new passion found it's way to me...
VIDEO! Making videos!
Been making lots of videos in my class projects (am doing a course in video this semester)an quite honestly i dint think i would enjoy the course as much as i do.
i would have posted my videos here were it not for the silly faults am making here and there, like shaky shots (forget the fact that we are given tripods),
i cant seem to understand how much is too much lighting hence bad lighting and i also have a difficulty in executing the big idea i had while scripting.
so while am still working on improvements, am due to upload a video magazine i did last week with my friends as part of the the many class projects we are doing,
the video magazine is about fashion..and as soon as am done, will post a link here.
Keep Checking,
Have a great weekend Ahead!

IT'S BACK TO SCHOOL TIME!

Not blogged for a while now, mmh..,sorry!

It must have been the up's and down's of the registration of my courses this semester.

The system has been slow and on the process i got classes on the wrong timings

check this; class on a Saturday afternoon with a boooring lecturer- i know him and i have had classes before

with him- this is not going to happen,

What about a class on a wednesday evening?

what would happen to my late Wednesday coffee dates with my girls Saldina and Sheila? oh that would

suck if i had to cancel those.

So while am still working on my class selections, classes have officially began and am looking forward to

working extra hard, you know, reading my ass off and less of chilling-

you will probably be thinking why that? heres the big reason, this is my final year in school and cant wait to

be done ;-) ;-)  am hoping that soon after am settled in school, will find time to blog frequently,

keep it locked fellas.

With Gratitude.

NOT DOING RESOLUTIONS THIS YEAR.

Am checking out my last years resolutions and I can’t stop laughing!
O.m.g !!  What the hell was wrong with me?(must have been very dumb)
Its like I wrote them, half drunk, maybe half asleep  or something. Lmao,
To save a face I wont display my dumbness on my page *wink
But on flip, come to think of it, Resolutions is a lame exercise
I do not have to wait for end year or on a birthday to mark down resolutions that would be forgotten
Three days later. Been writing resolutions that I have never really followed, so, enough  of that already ,
No resolutions for me this year.
If you suspect you need to work on an area of your life,
Work it immediately.
It takes only 21 days to break a habit. Work it. Simple.
Scribbling a list of close to 10+ resolutions, and expecting to work on them, religiously is not even realistic
I would rather advocate for monthly short term goals, maybe two GOALS  to be considered and
as soon as they become a habit I move onto a new month with new short term goals to consider, and a newly acquired habit.
At least this might give me the exact things to focus on and stick on.
That’s how am roll this year
No resolutions.
Try my new trick and be sure to mail me and tell me if it worked for you. Right?
Lovely day people,
Winnie.
